Causes of Hair Loss

Hair loss can be due to a number of underlying factors, which is why a thorough history and consultation with a qualified Dermatologist or dermatology experienced Physician Assistant is always a good first step.

Causes can include: genetics, underlying system illnesses, hormone imbalances, medications, skin conditions such as Psoriasis, nutrient deficiencies, hair care products/treatments and more.

Types of Hair Loss

There are several types of hair loss, including Alopecia Areata, Scarring Alopecia and more.  Your provider will discuss testing and treatment options during your consultation, which will largely be determined based on history and examination.

How do you Diagnose Hair Loss?

Depending on the type of hair loss, diagnosis can sometimes be made during the examination appointment.  For some types of hair loss, your provider might recommend lab testing to further evaluate for underlying concerns, which will often help tailor treatment recommendations.

What Treatment Options are Available for Hair Loss?

The good news is with recent advances over the last few years, there are more treatment options available now than ever before.

Treatment recommendations can include:

  • Topical or oral medications
  • Treatment of underlying metabolic conditions
  • Intralesional Kenalog (ILK) injections
  • Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatments
  • Hair Transplants

Schedule a consultation with one of our providers to start the process of understanding what you can do to treat hair loss.
